I know I'm sick when...

I can watch cricket for an hour without getting bored.

Today I woke up at 7am had a shower and went to work. At 12pm I was sent home because my energy levels were just pathetic and my nasally voice must have reached the point of annoying. When I got home I collapsed on the couch, it was the best feeling in the world. I then had a nice conversation with my dad about why Tony Abbott is actually pretty awesome at times and why Kevin Rudd can be just plain frustrating.

I then went and watched the September Issue, Anna Wintour is some form of God. This realigned my old passion for being a magazine editor so I then went ahead and googled WebZines. I then fell asleep listening to Devendra Banhart. Then when I woke up I watched cricket, I was mildly entertained by the enthusiasm demonstrated by the Indian cheerleaders.

I'm now watching the 7pm project for the first time in a gazillion years.

I hope no one else catches this awful cold! And for all the first years, I hope week 2 of your first semester is going well. Drop me a line sometime! =]

Peace, Love and happiness!

Jess

I'm Going On

This morning I woke up with a sore throat, a sure sign of sickness. Considering my busy schedule of late I wouldn't be surprised if these are the early signs of my body being run down. You don't even want to know how my week starting today is planned! (it's rather disturbing). I must say, however, that I don't think going out and drinking on Saturday night only to go to work on Sunday helped much. (In my defence, though I drank more than usual, I was home by 11pm)

Seeing as it's only Week 2 of the semester and I'm aware we have a study break coming up in a couple of weeks, I'm pushing on. So this morning I decided I was going to read my required readings before I get to class. Only problem is the unit has not prescribed one book, rather they have picked a bunch of different readings and made them available on-line. Personally I think it would have made more sense to compile these into a reader (one book with a bunch of chapters from other books), that way I could read during my break and on the train. But no... they're on-line.

So I jump on-line and head to MyMurdoch. I'm feeling very proud that I am taking a good step forward with deciding to study when a screen pops up where MyMurdoch should be telling me that Murdoch's security certificate has expired. Now I'm not too computer savvy but I think I know computers well enough to know that this means my computer is open to harmful little things on the world wide web. In hindsight the site is probably fine, but I've had a virus before and I HATE them, and considering I only just re-installed my computer to factory settings (I like everything to be new when I start a new year) I do not want to have to go through that again any time soon.

Therefore, I have not done my reading's. The smell of fuel flowing into my room thanks to my dads lawnmower is also making me feel slightly uneasy. Maybe today just isn't my day for uni. If I was there more than two days I week I would probably stay home today. But I feel bad if I only go for one day and I kinda miss Murdoch. So today I will be at the train station at 10am ready for my 11:30am start. Not too shabby I must say...

Australian Firewall

Just read an insighting post by fellow blogger Ben Ainslie. He writes about the Australian Government's proposal to set up a firewall blocking a select list of Internet sites to the general public. The other day in my PR class we were asked to discuss a current issue in Australia and list the 'publics' affected. After an intent discussion my group chose to identify the people affected by the Government's firewall. We ran out of room on our page because literally every Australian is affected. You may not be using the internet regularly, you may not be using it all at the moment, or you may be an avid browser and regular internet user. Either way, you're internet experience is going to change dramatically if the Government go ahead with this.

Check out what Ben has to say HERE. He gives a really good and easy to understand explanation of what this is all about.

Remind me to wear comfy shoes next time.

Well today was... eventful. This morning got off to a nice start when I realised I started at 11:30 and not 10:30. Then I reached the train station and missed the train by a fraction of a second, too bad I had to top up my smart rider anyway so I wasn't too bummed about that. I had company on the train ride which helps pass the time, considering I didn't have any reading material just yet. When we reached Murdoch we decided to walk to the campus, seeing as there was a line for the bus and it wasn't such a bad day. It was 11:10 by this time. I was a little worried I wouldn't make it to my lecture on time. Mainly because I had missed the first train, but also because I had no idea where it was. Yes, it's my third year at Murdoch and I'm still getting lost!!

The lecture theatre was VBS 3.023 so I assumed it had something to do with veterinary sciences. I was pretty close. The first building I went to wasn't right and some helpful science student showed me where to go. I made it on time, but I would just like to take this time to say that public relations lectures should not be given in the veterinary building. It's just confusing!

After a 2 hour wait and a catch-up with a friend (who had to wait 4 hours for his next class!) I made my way to my first tutorial of the year. A few familiar faces were present, something I'm hoping will continue throughout the year. But in this class I was given a little bit of a shock. Turns out my amazingly magnificent streak of no exams is over. o-v-a-h-ovah! I'm a little devastated at this thought. It basically means that I need to put in this semester and remember things beyond week 14, something I haven't had to in quite a while. I guess I deserve it though, my luck so far has been too good.

I hope you all had a good start to the week!

Here's to an awesome year filled with productivity (Pfft, yeah right... I'm the worst procrastinator ever), fun times at the tav and an abundance of HD's!

Jess.

P.S

The title for this blog refers to me walking home from the train station this afternoon in inappropriate ballet flats. I decided to take these off and walk bare foot. Bad bad bad idea....

In other news: There is a sample song on my computer called "Kalimba". It is by Mr. Scruff and from an album called Ninja Tuna. I am impressed windows, I am impressed.

Day 1

Holy smoke! It's that time of the year again. Usually I'm giddy with excitement and can't wait to get back to uni to see  all the friends I've left. But today... I'm feeling a little unmotivated. This may be due to several things:

A. I have to get on a train this morning, something I haven't done in a couple of months.
B. I signed a part time contract at work the other day - I'm a little scared about the added workload.
C. I kind of liked working all the time and NOT having to study.

Pretty much all of the above sum up why I'm a little stressed at the moment.

But I'm all equipped to begin my journey into final year today. So I'm going to go pack my bag (I still don't have a bag set aside... pretty slack really and I really should have done it last night), get dressed and jump on a train.

Let me know how you're first day went today and I'll give an update when I get home. Also if you're a first year - How are you feeling about starting university this year?

Jess.

Oh My...

I cried from laughing too much when I tried to relay this to my dad and brother. Just listen to the video - hilarious.

Caro emerald - Bad Romance

If you're a Lady Gaga fan or not, you must admit this a pretty cool cover.

I was feeling pretty tired a minute ago but now I can't stop bobbing! I love infectious polka.

Enjoy!!

What do you mean east side and west side?

Wow, what a difference two months can make. Yesterday I stepped foot on Uni grounds for the first time since November last year. Everything that was under construction when I left has now been completed.

There are new courts outside of the gym area, the bottom of bush court has had a make-over adding a new layer look to the once bleak field of grass, and the student center is now easy to access with futuristic queuing mechanisms once reserved for banks.

The new student center makes me happy. Before I wouldn't even go near the student center just because from the outside it looked confusing, I can be difficult like that. But this new design makes everything so simple. You walk in, you press a series of buttons on a machine telling it what type of 'enquiry' you need to make, you receive a number, you sit on the cool comfy chairs and wait for your number to be called. After the electronic voice calls your number you sort your issues out and be on your merry way. It really is that simple. The building is also riddled with pamphlets for courses and an abundance of prospectus guides.

So my advice for today is to go to the student center. If you're like me and just do it yourself and then find out later that what you've entered online is actually wrong and now it needs to be fixed, then I suggest you go to the student center and ask them to do it for you. It will just make life easier. Also if you're a new student you will probably get a majority of your questions answered here, so don't be scared to pop in and find out what the east side of bush court means. I might have to do that myself actually, because I still have no idea.
