Wahey, That looks cool!

Don't you just love that feeling when you submit something you've been stressing over for weeks? It's the biggest relief, especially when you know you don't have anything else due until another fortnight. You can finally have a good nights sleep without worrying how you're going to form that one sentence that's been bugging you for days. Yes, that feeling is a good one. So until I begin stressing about my next due date I'm going to saviour this moment for a while...

Did anyone notice those strange drawings around campus lately? One of them was a combination of blue circles filled with different pictures. Another, next to the pay phone near the walk way to the ECL lecture theatres, featured a bunch of coloured drawings all intertwined together like one big grapevine.

Well today the big surprise was revealed - for those who knew there was a big surprise anyway. I was speaking to a couple of friends today who hadn't noticed the writing on the ground at all. I'm not exactly sure what's going on in bush court at the moment, but whatever it is it looks awesome.

Hopefully the big mystery will be revealed soon. So stay tuned! As soon as I find out I'll let you all know what's going on.

Doh!

It's a students worst nightmare - deleting a file that hasn't been saved. Instead of minimizing when I wanted it to, Microsoft office decided to shut down. All 1000 words of my 2000 word essay disappeared. I also had an awesome thesis statement that I was really proud of, I've forgotten what it was already...

The lesson here is, always save you're work!

Essay whaaattt?

I have the house to myself, it is unbelievably quite, I finished season 2 of Big Bang Theory last night, and I have no distractions. But I still can't bring myself to write the 2000 word essay I have due next Monday. You could probably call it procrastination but I like to think it's more than that. The essay topic is just... boring. It's not really asking me to explore anything, and it's fairly obvious. I don't like obvious things, for this reason I fail a lot of tests. I always assume it's not the obvious answer, turns out the answer I believe to be obvious is only obvious because I know its the answer. Hopefully I'll get over this soon because I have two exams to sit this semester.

Anyway, I've put it to myself to find some ways to get motivated. So here they are:

  1. Use colour - I find using colour makes boring things seem interesting. I try to use it a lot when writing out essay plans, that way when flicking through my book the page catches my eye.
  2. Awesome stationary - This is a no-brainer. Assignments give me a reason to use the awesome stationary I purchased from Smiggle.
  3. Music - Different types of music can motivate you in different ways. Music that's fast paced and full of beats makes me want to go for a walk, my favourite music motivates me to write these blogs, and chilled out sounds set a good mood when writing an assignment.
  4. Research - This can help you find something interesting to write/talk about. The assignment you once thought was boring may all of sudden become intriguing.
  5. Plan - I know its pretty primary school but it really helps to hone down on what you need/want to say.  Plus, when it comes to writing your assignment for real it won't take as long!
  6. Socialise - There's nothing worse than locking yourself away and punishing yourself by studying. This method may work for some, but it does nothing for me! I find it easier to write an essay when I have someone in the same room as me, I also like watching TV and working on an assignment at the same time.
So there's 6 tips on how to get motivated. Take em' or leave em'! If you've got anything that you find keeps you motivated or some kind of jedi mind trick that makes you want to study, leave it in a comment below =]

Till next time,
Jess.

Show and Tell: Edition 1.

They never fail to please. Ok Go! Have released two videos for their latest single "This Too Shall Pass" and both are as great if not better than their infamous video for "Here It Goes Again". Check out my favourite below and follow this link to view the other vid on youtube.

You may have heard of a young girl who likes shoes... alot. She writes a blog called Sea of Shoes. I try to keep an eye on her postings, she has an awesome fashion sense. To date these are by far my favourite shoes she's shared with us. Check out her blog to see why she is quickly moving up in the fashion world.

I can't hold my breath any longer. Has anyone noticed the recent controversy surrounding Lady Gaga? Her new video features.... wait for it... two girls kissing! Shocking I know, *rolls eyes*. It's been a while since I've actually liked the work of a Pop Star (will someone get rid of Kesha now!). She's a work of art and that reflects in her music videos. I respect that she's broke because she spends her earnings on elaborate stage settings and costumes. I also respect that she's open about her sexuality and does not care for petty media who condemn her for portraying two girls making out. Get over it, it's the 21st century.

Well it's official, chat roulette is taking over.I haven't been brave enough to give it a try yet, I'm a little worried I'll land some guy in the nude and I don't know what I'd do if I saw this. If you're not aware of chat roulette its a new web cam concept that sees you paired randomly with a chat partner from around the world. There's been a couple of lucky people who have landed the likes of Ashton Kutcher and Paris Hilton. Did I say lucky? Maybe not the best adjective to use in that sentence. My favourite video of a chat roulette session is of this guy who serenades randoms with his piano while ad-libbing.

And that's what's caught my eye this week! Hopefully I'll have something interesting to say about university soon. Is it just me or do people generally become seriously unmotivated in their third year of uni? I have an essay due in a week, so I better get motivated soon!

Till next time,
Jess.

The Humans are Dead.

Wow, surprisingly I'm still awake after an early morning start following a late night watching How I Met Your Mother, it was Legen-dary!

I was hoping to continue the saga tonight but instead I'm going to see Alice in Wonderland in 3D. Thankgod! What a glorious way to end the first study break which has been filled with many lazy mornings and shopping extravaganzas searching for the perfect Hannah Montana wig. Who actually studies during study breaks anyway? Especially when the first one of the year is just 3 weeks into the semester. I don't have any assignments due until 3 more weeks, so I decided to take the high road and stick my nose up at stoopid study time. (Probably not the high or the right road but it sure was a mighty road, and I had a damn fine time walking down it). I did make some major progress this week, as well as failing to attend to some matters. Yesterday I went to JB Hi-Fi intending to buy Muse's latest album and a Jamie T CD. Instead I bought home Vampire Weekend, Pheonix, Mars Volta, and the Flaming Lips. I guess I'll have to save Jamie and Muse for another time. I also didn't see the dentist who I've been avoiding for the past 6 months, naughty I know. I was also meant to see an accountant, pay my licence bill, and find a Hannah Montana costume for tomorrow night's Disney party. I think we can guess which two of the aforementioned tasks I did not achieve.

I must admit costume shopping is a whole bunch of fun. In the past couple of years I've been to a couple of dress-up parties, two of which were Disney inspired. To the first I went as Alice in Wonderland, the second I was some witch from some cartoon I googled. These parties were so hard to dress for, they had such intricate rules that one must follow, but not this one... no... This time things are easy. A year ago my friend said "It's only one year until my 21st! I'm having a Disney party =D" and I replied "OMG! I'm going as Hannah Montana!" It was the perfect character. Firstly, she's human, secondly, she wears a wig, thirdly, anyone can be Hannah Montana if they wear a blonde wig. So this week I decided to hunt down a wig. I ended up buying a wig last Saturday from Toy World, but it just wasn't right. It was thick and frumpy and didn't look right at all. I was a bit dissapointed, so I went about trying to find the rest of my costume. It wasn't until yesterday that I struck gold! I happened to be roaming in the easter section of Target looking for a picture of Hannah so I could match a costume, when I stumbled upon something wonderful. A Hannah Montana easter gift box. Oh boy was it good! Inside was a chocolate egg wrapped in gold Hannah Montana foil and perched on top of the egg was... a Hannah Montana wig! An actualy Disney branded Hannah Montana wig! That means its gotta be right, right? Right! It's perfect! Now I can't wait to transform myself tomorrow night and forget about this Hannah Montana obsession by Sunday morning. (Maybe... I did like that movie a little bit)

Now I must use next week's uni time to catch up on study I should have caught up with this week. Pfft study breaks... how elusive you are in your 'study' ways.

P.S. I would like to apologise for using the phrase 'Hannah Montana' a little too much.

I'll closet you!

NOTE: Inside jokes cannot be used as blog headlines - I have ignored this rule.

Today I come to you from the pleasant home of Sunset Events. I've wanted to write about this grand place for some time now but it is not something I could explain at first glance. No this place is not as it seems upon first walking in. At first you think, my goodness this place rocks does anyone get any work done? Well... the simple answer to that is yes, and boy is there work to get done.

On my first day I sat in the front room on a couple of comfy seats reading X-Press magazine, waiting for someone to collect me. After being introduced to the person who would look after me during my time in the office, I was whisked through the office and given a bunch of names I struggle to remember to this day. While on my little office tour, however, I noticed a few things. Firstly the lack of shoes around the place reminded me alot of Murdoch, it also made me feel completely at home. Next I noticed a Kelly Clarkson poster, which confsued me a little... Turns out Sunset Events is promoting her show in WA. This fact was somewhat redeemed when I later found out that Eric Hutchinson is the supporting act. Also, you can' help but notice the two dogs wondering around the place. I have no idea who they belong to but they are the cutest dogs who roam in and out of office rooms daily. For the rest of that day I sat at an office desk complete with a telephone and random CD's. I got to take home a few of these CD's that day, including Guy Sebastian's latest album which made my mum quite happy. I didn't do anything too notable on that first day, except right a paragraph for an email that would be sent to Sunset subscribers. But that day, was still a good day. Seeing and meeting the people behind some of the best events I've been to recently is a pretty awesome experience.

The past couple of weeks have really flown by.Today marks the fourth week I have spent at Sunset Events, and it feels like yesterday that I first walked in. On a personal level I've had a couple of nice achievements including writing part of an e-mail sent to 150,000 subscribers. I've also receievd a pretty good insight to the industry I've wanted to work in for several years, and so far I like what I see. Except for maybe the fact that people don't stop in this place. It seems nice and casual from the outside, but from the inside there is just mounds of firey chaos relishing to be released.

Also, in a completely unrelated subject, why the hell is Justin Bieber so popular?! As far as I can recall no 3 year olds ever cried over the Jonas Brothers. Besides... he only has one really good song anyway, I mean the only song I've heard was really really bad *nods*.

One from the vault.

Today I'm a little uninspired, despite a rather funny incident which occurred today (A friend of mine counted how many points there were in a "Ten Point Plan", yes she went to Future Music Festival last night. (which means she was a bit tired) And yes I did just put a bracket inside a bracket) Anyway! This means I'm not going to write an awesomely awesome blog, despite my pretty awesome day. So instead I'm bringing out a blog that I wrote in Year 11 when I first started blogging. This was the last blog I ever wrote on my old MSN space, RIP little fella.

Here it is.... :

05 December 2006

Walking to school is stoopid.

So I had to walk to school one day. Actually I had to do it a few times, damn the good weather. Anyway, it was hot and I was starting to feel depressed that I didn't know how to catch a bus from my house to the school. And this isn't Mandurah High people, im not that lazy gosh!
Anyway, too prevent myself from becoming too sad I sung myself a stoopid song to pass the time. I had songbird stuck in my head also, so the song I sung was to that tune. Although the chorus doesn't match too well.... but hey what can I say, im not much of a rhymer, at all. haha.
So anyway enjoy! it helped cure my boredom, I hope it does the same for you :)

I have entitled it School Bus.
Original music by Bernard Fanning

Verse 1
I wish I knew which bus to catch
Then I wouldn't have to walk to school
Because thats just not cool

So I'll just keep on looking ahead
As the sweat keeps running down my face
Oh its just not great

Chorus (its not perfect)
Someone
Won't you tell me which bus to catch
One with air conditioning
Cause the sun just won't stop glistening

Verse 2
Now I'm about to cross the bridge
Keep telling myself that I won't look down
Cause I might lose my crown - (crown's another word for head)

So I'll just keep holding my head up high
Till my eyes meet sight with the sky
Oh so high

Repeat Chorus.
Repeat Verse 1

Just tell me the number of the bus x 4
